Cannabinoid 101: Delta 8 THC

Found within the cannabis plant, cannabinoids compounds have various effects on the human body when consumed. The most common cannabinoid is Delta 9 THC. This is the cannabinoid that gets consumers high. It can also cause some unwanted side effects like a clouded head and increased anxiety and paranoia. But what if there was a way to feel the same sense of euphoria that Delta 9 creates without the side effects? Well, that’s where the cannabinoid Delta 8 THC comes in. 

What is Delta 8 THC?

Delta 8 THC is a cannabinoid found in small amounts within the cannabis plant stem. Through an isomerization process, Delta 8 is converted into its purest form and added to different products for application or consumption. The biggest difference between each delta 8 and delta 9 is the placement of a double bond in their molecular structure. Delta 8 has a double bond on the 8th carbon chain and Delta 9 has a double bond on the 9th carbon chain. This simple difference makes a world of change for these cannabinoids.

Effects

Delta 8 helps users feel a sense of high, but at half the potency of Delta 9. It’s crazy, right? Well, Delta 8 also helps its consumers to feel in control of their high, leaving them lucid and aware of what is happening around them. Because of this control, consumers have reported positive outcomes in their daily lives. They’ve also reported that their ability to function normally if they suffer from social anxiety or depression. People have described Delta 8 as liberating. With the scientific research available, it really shows. 

Products

Delta 8 THC is in several different kinds of products. The most readily available products on the market are vape cartridges, edibles, tinctures, and distillates. 

Vapes are inhaled and create a slow high similar to when consumers smoke marijuana. Edibles and distillates are food based Delta 8 products. Edibles contain Delta 8 THC in them and are consumed according to the recommended dosage from the manufacturer. 

Distillates are different from edibles. It’s a pure oil that is added to already made food or food currently being made. It allows consumers to control how much of a high they feel, as well as how long it lasts by how much they add to the food. 

Finally, there are tinctures. This is oil squirted into your mouth, under the tongue. Tinctures elevate consumers over a short period of time, but keeping the high for a decent amount of time. 

Whichever product you decide to use, make sure you check to see if Delta 8 is legal in your state. Delta 8 THC is legal on the federal level. But, some states still have strict laws about cannabinoids and whether they are legal or not. Always research the laws in your state.
